The red grape variety Mandilaria is originated from the Island of Rhodes but is cultivated in every part of Greece today. The skins give a lot of colour, with deep coloured roses as a result.
Looking at the appearance
The wine has a clear and bright appearance, with a deep salmon pink colour. The lively appearance and the white edge of the wine tells us that the wine is still young. We find thick slow tears after swirling.
Smelling the aromas
There is a medium to high intensity when we first take a sniff of the wine. After swirling the intensity increases giving us aromas of pink grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, wild strawberry, fresh apricot, orange blossom and fresh Mediterranean herbs. The smell gives us no signs of aging and leads to a medium complexity.
Flavours on the palate
The wine has a medium to high acidity level, with an alcohol percentage of 13%. There is a crisp and fresh mouthfeel, that can have a touch of a mouth drying effect due to the present tannins. The tannins go from unripe to ripe, but do not feel green or unpleasant. The flavour intensity is high.
Conclusion
This wine should be drunken young, when the acidity is still lively, and the fruit is lushly present. There is a medium complexity and also the aftertaste is medium. The wine remains perfectly balanced. Due to riper aromas of herbs and exotic fruit, this is not only a summer wine, but will also do very well in autumn and springtime. Best enjoyed when sitting next to the Mediterranean Sea.
